Seniors Month 2024

June is Seniors Month, and the 2024 theme is Working for Seniors. It's a time to honour the remarkable contributions that seniors have made over their lifetime.

Seniors greatly influence a community's success. One-quarter of all volunteers in Canada are those 65 and older. They frequently dedicate multiple hours per week to volunteering, serving as mentors to younger generations. Their wealth of experience and skills are invaluable to those following in their footsteps, serving as exceptional educational resources and role models, both professionally and personally.

The wisdom and unique perspective that each senior holds enable them to offer guidance on a wide array of topics. They have the capacity to dedicate the necessary time and effort to complete projects successfully from beginning to end.

Many seniors also take on caregiving responsibilities, assisting with childcare for their grandchildren and providing support to ill or mobility-restricted spouses or relatives.

This is merely a glimpse of their current contributions! Today's seniors have experienced historical events that younger generations can only learn about from textbooks. Culturally, they uphold traditions and embody the essence of our society. They have persevered through challenging times, raised families, witnessed significant changes and technological progress, and adeptly adapted to them. Their lives have been shaped by these experiences, and they have played a part in these transformations.

As a community, it is so important to honour the seniors in our lives who have made a difference and encouraged us along the way. Let's pause today to appreciate and express gratitude to the seniors in our lives for their significant contributions to the community!
